2017’s Richest Person and How They Made Their Money: REVEALED!

6. Carlos Slim Helú, 81 – Net Worth: $50.7 billion

carlos-slim-heluPreviously holding the title as the richest man in the world, Carlos Slim is the richest man in Mexico, and owns a huge chunk of the country’s infrastructure. Through his company Grupo Carso, Slim owns 80% of the telephone lines in Mexico, following his acquisition of Telmex. Grupo Carso also owns a 17% stake in The New York Times, worth an estimated $391 million.

Carlos is not satisfied yet, and has aggressive plans to grow his Mexican monopoly even further. Back in 2015, he invested $4 billion in some new sectors, including investments in the financial and industrial sectors. Despite his personal fortune slightly decreasing by approximately $1 billion over the past 12 months, Slim looks destined to remain in the upper ranks of the world’s ultra-elite.
